Amiens: what to do, what to see...

Amiens provides a dream destination for culture lovers just two hours north of Paris. Its centrepiece, Notre-Dame Cathedral, is listed by UNESCO and comes to life in the summer with a son et lumière show, whilst the floating Hortillonnages gardens are a unique and well-preserved heritage waiting to be explored. Water is omnipresent here, with the canals and waterside restaurants of the Saint-Leu quarter and the nearby the Bay of the Somme providing an escape into nature.

• Chroma, the new light show on Notre-Dame cathedral
• The floating gardens, hundreds of them on a maze of 65km of canals
• Saint-Leu quarter and its unique atmosphere
• The "tower house" where Jules Verne lived, one of the most beautiful writer's houses in Europe
• The Bay of the Somme, an inexhaustible source of inspiration for painters and writers

• Climb to the top of the cathedral for its panoramic view
• The Art Cities and Landscapes Festival from mid-June to mid-October
• Spring and autumn flea markets stretching 15km
• Cycle along the riverside of the Somme and the famous floating gardens
• Support the Gothique ice hockey team at the Coliseum

• The "ficelle picarde", a crepe with ham, mushrooms, shallots and cream
• The "gateau battu" (beaten cake), a kind of brioche
• Local cheese from La Halle au Frais
• Artisanal beers produced on Marie-Laure & François' farm north of Amiens
• Fresh vegetables from the floating market

• Amiens macaroons, THE city specialty
• BlueReide, the only blue beer, brewed in Amiens
• Chocolate creatures from Bonnotte, Master chocolatier
• Madame Defacque's world famous jams, like "Strawberry with Amiens Macaroon"!
