For the selection of its wines and champagnes, Air France has chosen the world’s best sommeliers. For all its cabins, the airline company has chosen Paolo Basso and the duo Thierry Desseauve and Michel Bettane, in charge of the group of experts Bettane + Desseauve, authors of the Bettane + Desseauve Wine Guide.
Paolo Basso, an expert wine taster
Paolo Basso is one of the best wine tasters in the world. He was named Switzerland's best sommelier in 1997 and won the European title in 2010. In 2013, the Italian sommelier was crowned world champion. He has worked in many establishments recognized by the most renowned gastronomic guides. The wine expert has acquired great experience in the rare wine sector and over the years has become a recognized expert. A consultant for several hotel chains and juror of international wine tasting competitions, Paolo Basso is keen to pass on his knowledge and teaches at the Changins School of Wine in Switzerland and the Worldsom School in Bordeaux, France.
Bettane and Desseauve, great French wine guides
Michel Bettane was formerly a professor of classical lutterature. Passionate about wine, he studied at the Academy of Wine in Paris as from 1977 and then started teaching there. In the early 1980s, he became the main collaborator of La Revue du Vin de France. Thierry Desseauve trained as a journalist and was editor-in-chief and director of La revue du vin de France from 1989 to 2005. He was the first winner of the Edmond de Rothschild prize for the best book on wine (Le Livre du vin, Flammarion). In 1995 he created the annual ranking of the best wines and estates in France, together with Michel Bettane.
