Occitania / South of France: a cyclists eldorado

Cyclists come from far and wide to climb the Col du Tourmalet and follow the route of the Tour de France in the Pyrenees. These are some of the musts that make Occitania / South of France a region where cycle tourism is king. But in Occitania cycling is something you can enjoy all over the region. You can cruise alongside the Canal du Midi, pedal around the magnificent Lot Valley and explore the roads of Aveyron in the saddle, cycling from pretty village to historical attraction: Occitania offers a fabulous choice of cycling routes

First itinerary: "Route des Cols"

The "Route des Cols" runs along 952km through the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, crossing 34 great Pyrenean passes. Almost half of the route is in the Midi-Pyrénées region.
Depending on your level of ability and the kind of route you feel like taking, either follow the full Route des Cols itinerary or just focus on a couple of its mountain passes. In the "Mountain passes" tab below, you will find an information sheet about the different routes running to each great mountain pass in the Midi-Pyrénées (starting point, distance, altitude)… Get pedalling!

Second itinerary: “Canal des Deux Mers”

Stunning countryside, outstanding heritage interest and all the sunshine of the South of France: what more could you want? Get in the saddle for an unforgettable cycle ride along the Canal des Deux Mers At 700 km long, it is the only route in Europe that connects the beaches of the Atlantic with the beaches of the Mediterranean.

Third itinerary: Tour of the 10 most beautiful villages of France in the Aveyron

Aveyron boasts the largest number of sites classified as being the "Most Beautiful Villages of France". This tour will take you on a discovery tour of these villages and will also take you round the département's magnificent natural sites: the Gorges du Tarn, the Aubrac département as well as the Lot Valley. Get pedalling!
