From 6-16 June 2019, the city of Rouen is due to welcome the Armada, a must-see event in Normandy for lovers of boats and sailing.
The Armada is back! For 11 days next summer, hundreds of sailors are set to descend on Rouen for the 30th anniversary of the event’s inauguration. For this 7th event (it takes place every 4-5 years), thousands of visitors will invade the docks to admire the world’s largest and most beautiful sailing boats as they’re moored in the port, just steps away from the historic centre of Rouen.
As in the last event in 2013, the 50 vessels – which also include modern warships, school sailing ships, old rigging and other exceptional boats – will travel 120km up the Seine to reach the capital of Normandy by 6th June. Boat tours are completely free throughout the event.
The programme includes a sailors’ mass, a crews’ parade and a grand parade. These will take place on the Armada’s closing day, Sunday 16th June, from 11am on the banks of the Seine.
There’ll be many other activities on the docks for the 2019 event: concerts, parades and fireworks every evening. It’s truly a must-see… especially as the next one won’t be for another five or six years!
