"Michael Jackson: On the Wall" exhibition in Paris

Almost 10 years after his death, the myth of Michael Jackson is the subject of this exhibition. "Michael Jackson: On the Wall" is also dedicated to the tremendous impact of the King of Pop's personality and work on contemporary art in the Grand Palais.

An indominitable figure in the music, video, dance and fashion industry, Michael Jackson is also one of the most represented celebrities in visual arts. After its conception in the National Portrait Gallery in London, the exhibition honoring the pop icon will now move to the Grand Palais from Nov 23, 2018 to Feb 14, 2019. The collection promises to present unprecented insight on his impact on several artists' generations in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Works of more than 40 artists are reunited for the first time

Paintings, drawings, sculptures, photos, videos or performances—for the first time, the exhibition gathers the works of more than 40 artists from public or private collections. Some pieces were even created for the occasion.
Visitors can see the iconic painting made by Andy Warhol in 1982, which became the cover of Time Magazine in 1984. Another highlight is the surprising posthumous "Equestrian Portrait of Philip II" by Kehinde Wiley, in which the King of Pop is turned into the King of Spain with a gold and silver armour, on a white horse, surrounded by two angels, one black, the other white.

From the Jackson 5 to an iconoclastic artist

The exhibition, which references Off the wall, the Michael Jackson's first solo album in 1979, is organized in chronlogical order. It traces the exceptional rise of this world legend, from his beginnings as a gifted child among the Jackson 5 to his metamorphosis into an iconoclastic artist with a unique flamboyance.

Themed halls also invite visitors to consider the aesthetic, social and political aspects of the African American artist's work; an oeuvre that sought above all to remove barriers of all kinds, from those that separate musical genres to those that separate races.
