Irving Penn at the Grand Palais

From 21 September 2017 to 29 January 2018, the Grand Palais is hosting the Irving Penn exhibition; the first major retrospective of this artist to be held in France since his death.

2017 marks the centenary of the birth of Irving Penn (1917-2009), one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century.
The Irving Penn exhibition at the Grand Palais looks back over the 70-year career of this American artist. With more than 240 photographic prints, all produced by the artist himself, the exhibition offers a comprehensive vision of the range of genres he worked in: fashion, still life, portraits, nudes, beauty, cigarettes and street scenes, as well as the monumental “small trades” series of images created in 1950 and 1951 in Paris, London and New York.
Following a chronological and thematic route, visitors will experience the work of the artist from his first pieces of the late 1930s through to his fashion and still life images of the 1990s.
