Walking with Pottok horses in Béarn

In the mood for an easy walk? Thank the pottok who will carry your gear and spur the children on! You don't know about the pottoks? It is an old breed of horse in the Basque Country (pronounced potiok) known for being small and robust.

Accompanied by your pottok, you will discover Béarn des Gaves. You also get a road map showing with geographical and historical markers, as well as traditions and some secrets of the region.

Those walking as a family get a special road map for children. You could even have a go at Basque pelota (type of racket sport) at the end of the day.

Listed as a Country of Art and History, Béarn des Gaves (the local name of the streams from the Pyrenees) takes you through history, from the lords of Béarn through to the birth of spa tourism. En route, you can enjoy the surrounding nature. Especially the views over the Pyrenees!

The perfect finishing touch: you will stay with local people, who will welcome you in a friendly spirit. They will be happy to show you their Béarn and share some of their daily life with you: sheep farming, working with horses, cheese making etc.
