What if we treated ourselves to a quick tour of Bordeaux? Here we cross the banks of the Garonne, explore the Saint-Michel district and the Cité du Vin, and head through the Chartrons Skate Park and over the Pierre Bridge. A high-speed timelapse to make you want to book your flight today. Let’s go!
Before strolling along the banks of the Garonne in Bordeaux, we invite you to experience a taste of the city, as though you’re a passer-by pressed for time. We start with the quays by the Chaban Delmas bridge, where the sunshine filters through Saint Andrew’s Cathedral.
We continue to Place de la Bourse, where in the summer the famous Miroir d’Eau attracts visitors in search of refreshment. You can enjoy a magnificent view of the Garonne from the Saint-Michel flèche, the Pierre bridge, the Saint-Michel district and its lively market.
Also lively all day long is the Place du Grand Théâtre, which houses the Opéra national de Bordeaux, with its season of beautiful performances. Then head for Skate Park, quai des Chartrons, where skateboarders, skaters and other BMX riders gather and find a cool place to ride.
It’s a short walk through Place Pey Berland to Saint-André Cathedral and Pey Berland Tower, before catching sight of the Bordeaux City Hall.
Sunset over the Cité du Vin
We end our tour at night, between the district of La Bastide and the Pierre, on the other side of the river, when the Garonne and the sky are adorned with the colours of the setting sun. Blue, pink, mauve, and a few golden flashes that set the sparkling curves of the Cité du Vin alight. Here Bordeaux celebrates wine and the vine through a series of creative and educational exhibitions.
We mustn’t forget to mention the city’s UNESCO-listed façades, walks in the parks and gardens, the beautiful surprises found in small designer shops, and moments spent on the terrace munching canelés… For all this and much more, you simply have to come and live here. Fall in love with Bordeaux – fast!
