Amazing Arctic Christmas with Galeries Lafayette Haussmann
At 6pm on Tuesday, 8 November 2016, Galeries Lafayette unveiled a frosty, sparkling wonderland and a family of polar bears in search of a new ice cap to inhabit. A magical eco-friendly experience awaits shoppers at the store on Boulevard Haussmann as Galeries Lafayette embarks on an Amazing Arctic Christmas!
GIANT PAPER CHRISTMAS TREE | SHOW AT 6PM | Galeries Lafayette unveils the store’s first-ever all-paper Christmas tree in a stunning sound and light show. Designed by artist Lorenzo Papace, the gigantic tree, brought to life by a ferris wheel and cable cars, takes centre stage beneath the century-old dome to play host to polar bears come to enjoy a fairytale experience in this untouched white wonderland.
AMAZING ARCTIC WINDOW DISPLAYS | The window displays on Boulevard Haussmann recount the epic tale of a family of polar bears who, faced with the relentless melting of the ice caps, journey from the North Pole to Galeries Lafayette, where an incredible new arctic home awaits them. The bears have great fun playing and dancing around each floor of the store before embarking on their journey back to the North Pole – allowing visitors to appreciate the importance of protecting the polar ice caps.
EXCLUSIVE LIVE SHOW | THE SHOES AND FRIENDS | PORTE MOGADOR ENTRANCE | 6.15PM | French electro pop band The Shoes and Galeries Lafayette team up to bring visitors an original musical creation inspired by the Amazing Arctic Christmas. The duo from Reims, who have produced and written songs for Woodkid, Gaëtan Roussel, Julien Doré, Philippe Katerine and Shakira, have risen to their latest challenge of bringing a traditional Christmas song bang up-to-date with their inimitable touch. The band will present a one-off live performance of the track in the magical Amazing Arctic setting, on 8 November at Galeries Lafayette. To interpret the unique track live, the duo will be joined by other members of their musical family: Ambroise Willaume (aka Sage), and Clara Luciani, winner of the 2016 Inrocks Labs award.
ANTARCTICA – ADÉLIE, TERRE & MER EXHIBITION PREVIEW, 6.30PM | As part of its Amazing Arctic Christmas, Galeries Lafayette has partnered with non-profit organization Wild-Touch to present an artistic project aimed at engaging visitors by raising awareness about the Arctic environment and the importance of protecting biodiversity and the planet. Shoppers are invited to discover this huge white continent that is home to incredible biodiversity both on land and at sea through a series of never-seen-before immersive shots from the 2015 Wild-Touch Antarctica expedition led by Luc Jacquet (director of Oscar-winning March of the Penguins, 2006). The scenes were captured by diver/photographer and marine biologist Laurent Ballesta, and extreme wild life photographer Vincent Munier.
