Golfing by the seaside
Would any golfer not like to practice their swing with a spectacular view of turquoise-blue ocean water in the distance? It certainly doesn’t seem likely! Thanks to its richly diverse natural landscape, golfers in France can take advantage of the many courses dotting its coastline, from the Northern Sea and the Mediterranean to the English Channel and the Atlantic Ocean.
Tradition and history
The coastal golfing movement took off in beach resorts after the sport began to gain popularity in the early 20th century. In fact, one out of two 18-hole courses at the Golf du Touquet (la Forêt) date from after 1904, and the Golf de Biarritz "Le Phare" was designed in 1888!
Whether you're looking for elegance and performance, sun and prestige or precision and height, France has a golf course perfect for you.
Elegance and performance
- Perfect your swing at Deauville, which has one 18-hole and one short course, all the while enjoying Normandy's sea breeze and wooded paths.
- At La Baule, which has two 18-hole courses, the Atlantic serves as a stunning nautral backdrop. The city is home to the some of the most beautiful courses in France, stages of Europe's largest amateur competitions.
- The club Golf Blue Green Pléneuf Val-André serves as another example, as it organizes the region of Brittany's own “Open”, a popular fixture among Europe’s golfing tournaments.
- Rub elbows with the pros at Brittany's Golf Blue Green Pléneuf Val-André during the Brittany Open, where sea, beaches and cliffs await you.
Sun and prestige
- At the Golf country-club de Saint-Tropez/Gassin, located just just 5 minutes from the beaches of St. Tropez and the beaches of Pampelonne, in the heart of one of the world's most famous islands.
- At the Golf Blue Green de Sainte-Maxime, which has a magnificent view of the bay of St. Tropez. The highly technical 18-hole course is spread over 65 hectares of land.
Heights and precision
- Located at the southernmost point of Corsica just minutes away from Bonifacio, the Sperone Golf Club is arguably one of the most beautiful courses in the world.Designed by the famed architect Robert Trent Jones, who aimed to integrate the stunning Corsican landscape into his creation, the course formally opened its doors in 1985. The 18 holecourse sits above the sea atop a limestone cap, with panoramic views of the Mediterranean’s blue waters and pristine sandy beaches. It has earned the reputation of being a challenging course that requires fine-tuned skill.
- Designed by the Scottish architect Tom Dunn in 1887 and inaugurated in 1890, the Dinard Golf Club golf de Dinard is located in northern Brittany, on the Emerald Coast. Overlooking the ocean, this 18-hole course offers a breathtaking panoramic view of La Haie. The area’s sandy and uneven terrain certainly makes for a technical and challenging course.
