Alsatian mulled wine with cinnamon: our recipe

Traditionally, Alsace's mulled wine includes a subtle hint of cinnamon, but you can add other spices like ginger and nutmeg according to your taste.

The ingredients:

  • 75 ml of red wine
  • 125 grams of sugar
  • One orange
  • An assortment of spices: two cinnamon sticks, three cloves, black pepper and star of anise.

Other spices that work well include juniper and cardamom.

Preparation:

  • Pour the wine into a saucepan.
  • Add the star of anise and heat the wine without bringing it to a boil.
  • Zest the orange.
  • Add the sugar, spices and orange zest.
  • Simmer on low heat for 20 minutes.
  • Filter through a colander and enjoy!
