Festival Garorock, Marmande (Bordeaux), France
The Garorock Festival, which was first created in 1997, has become one of the most respected frenck rock festivals. It finds place each year in Marmande, a little town by the Garonne river.
"Garorock" is a fluctuating pun between the Garonne and rock, but can also mean Gare au Rock - "Station og rock" or "Beware of the Rock".
The festival has been visited by big music names, which are among the best in the genre: Public Enemy, Babyshambles, Birdy Nam Nam, Iggy Pop, The Bloody Beetroots, Shaka Ponk, Bloc Party, Alborosie, Ludwig Von 88, Method Man et Redman, The Offspring, Cypress Hill, Die Antwoord and Asaf Avidan.
And far from sticking to the original intentions Garorock now strives to create a major event in Aquitaine. A refresher which also got the event moved from spring to summer, to reinforce an atmosphere where the keywords are ambiance and togetherness.
Garorock has thanks to a successful model earned its place among France's major festivals and has around 90,000 visitors during the three day event. And then "the Garo" has become a place for music lovers who come to see the real thing, but also to discover the future bands.
It is not just a festival with big names, it is also a festival that offers a wide range of activities - and even have a program for the youngest: le Garokid, dedicated to children from 6-12 years.
By Train: Marmande has a train station about 10 minutes walk from the festivalentrance.
By plane: the nearest international airport to Marmande is Bordeaux, which is about 2hours away by train.
