Rendez-vous in Belgium for the Centenary of the First World War be

In order to pay tribute to the Great War, Belgium will host a program of events, exhibits and commemorations related to the battles that took place on its soil and made a mark on its history.

  • From August 4th, 2014 to December 30th, 2017

Passchendaele: The Belgians have not forgotten

This traveling exhibition, presented by the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917, will be making stops in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The battle of Passchendaele is also known as the Third Battle of Ypres. The Canadian army participated in an offensive attack aiming to take back the German-occupied city of Passchendaele, where its courageous soldiers were successfully able to pass through enemy lines despite the resistance that awaited them. Against all adversity, the Canadian forces reached Passchendaele on October 30that the end of the second attack.

Commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the battle of Ypres will take place on October 28th, 2014 in Ypres and Nieuport. The theme of the event will be refusal to surrender and the flooding of the Yser plain, and the Soldier King (Albert I) will be honoured.
