With family or with friends, for sports or relaxation, on land or by sea, Deauville is the ideal destination. From horseback riding, sand surfing, and go-karting to kite-flying, golf, or tennis, there's something for everyone in this beautiful seaside city. Built upon a few acres of marshland and dunes 150 years ago, Deauville is today one of the most memorable seaside resort and business tourism place of its area.

Going Out in Deauville

Deauville is the central location for a number of internationally-renowned events, especially at the Centre International, the city's convention center.

It's there that the famous Asian and American Film Festivals take place each year, as well as the Women's Forum and the Omnivore Food Festival.

Creators, photographers, filmmakers, and painters have always drawn on the light, atmosphere, and fresh sea air of Deauville for inspiration. This creative spirit has also inspired an open culture.

Apart from its film festivals, there are also two music festivals for year, a Salon Livres & Musiques, and a cultural season with fifteen or more concerts and a photography festival.

Must-See Sites in Deauville

The Place Morny is the central point in Deauville. Not far, the Place du Marché stands, full of little markets and timber frames, just like the Mairie.

As you walk through the city, you'll see some of the many villas dating back to the 19th century and the start of the 20th. The gem of this exceptional heritage, the Villa Strassburger was constructed in 1907, at the place of a farm that belonged to the family of Gustave Flaubert. It was purchased in 1924 by the American press editor R.B. Strassburger and donated to the city 1980 - open for tours during the summer!

Next, it's time to head to the beach at the famous Promenade des Planches, built in 1923.

It's bordered with cabins carrying the names of famous stars, visited during the Festival du Cinéma Américain, and multicolored umbrellas.

Don't miss the Place Claude Lelouch with its ancient Roman architecture, which linked Deauville with romanticism and Pompeian baths through the film, Un Homme et Une Femme.

The shops in Deauville satisfy all passions for shopping: international fashion and accessory shops, decorative items, gourmet addresses, art galleries... and to top it off : the shops are open during the weekend! When night falls, Deauville lights up: the Casino blazes with a thousand lights for those who want to spend an evening in the exhilarating game rooms or on the slot machines. After an excellent dinner, why not visiting one of the city's many bars or nightclubs?

In 2010 the International equestrian complex, a 9-ha park dedicated to the horse and equestrian activities, sport and leisure added to the Deauville facilities. This fully-covered complex can receive major public events and is a training centre for top-class horses. It is also the perfect venue for trainings, seminaries, shows and competitions.

Nature

Deauville is a nice place to practice sports or fun activities with one's family or friends... Pleasure is in every season to practice sea, ground or air activities. Its immense fine-sand beach, dotted with multicoloured parasols is an ocean of well-being, where children and adults alike can have fun : throwing a ball, flying a kite, making sandcastles or just relaxing.

In all season the sea spray provides immediate and energizing refreshment, in rhythm with the changing sky and horses trotting on the sand. For those who prefer playing golf, the four golf courses in Deauville or just a few minutes away, have what it takes to keep fans happy, either technical or amusing, luxuriant and flowerplanted.
