Rendez-vous at Panorama XXL
Close your eyes. Imagine you are standing at the heart of a 35 meters high rotunda, the equivalent of a 12 storey building. You are wrapped up in a 101 meters long canvas: the ultimate immersion experience.
You can open your eyes now. Welcome to Normandy, to Rouen’s Panorama XXL: a new and unique cultural venue in France.
In this place, you are surrounded by a 360° illusion created by Yadegar Asisi, German artist and panorama specialist.
Asisi’s panoramas, circular photographic prints, may be fictitious, but the memories and emotions that inspired them are very real. From the viewing platforms at the centre, the XXL exhibitions are an invitation to contemplate, meditate, and change our visual culture.
Rome 312: The Opening Panorama (until September 2015)
Relive Ancient Rome with Rome 312. Emperor Constantine enters the city as its triumphant sole ruler after vanquishing his rival Maxentius.
Amazonia: Lose yourself in the Rainforest (September 2015 – March 2016)
The second exhibition, Amazonia, takes you on a fascinating journey through the Amazon’s complex ecosystem, rich wildlife, and incredible biodiversity.
Rouen (March 2016)
The historical capital of Normandy is also celebrated. Rouen propels you six centuries back, to reveal the majesty of the medieval city.
Yadegar Asisi combines photography, painting, and drawing to create mesmerizing effects of depth on his cultural illusions.
Panoramic paintings were very popular in the 19th century. They consisted of large-scale wide-angle representations of landscapes and historical events.
