Rendez-vous at Les Jalles
Tucked away discreetly above Paris’ newest culinary hot spot Les Jalles, is the gorgeously sultry cocktail lounge L’Etage. Climb the ornate art deco staircase and you’ll step into a softly lit, vintage-style space where cocktails are king and the sophisticated sounds of French chanteuse Caroline Nin will seduce. The acclaimed Nin’s unique blend of 1920s jazz, cabaret and French chanson, has earned her the reputation as a modern day Dietrich.
Here among the Tamara De Lempicka paintings, cosy plush velvet 20s sofas and soft lighting that dots the room, smoky black walls and exquisite zinc-topped bar, the feeling is one of a delicious secret being shared. Owners Magali Marian and Delphine Alcover are not newcomers to the restaurant scene, having made their name with the buzzy Bistro Volnay around the corner. This is their first bar venture and it’s already attracting a fashionably elegant crowd to the relaxed, intimate setting.
You don’t have to dine downstairs to drink upstairs but high quality bar snacks are available as well as wines by the glass. Unusual in Paris, there is no cover charge to listen to Nin currently performing three times a week.
The bar is open 7 days a week from 6pm to 2am. For more information on music dates please visit Nin's website listed below.
