Rendez-vous in Bruniquel 82800 Bruniquel fr

Dominated by the silhouette of its two imposing castles, the medieval city of Bruniquel (classified as one of France's Most Beautiful Villages) is a true architectural gem containing seven historical monuments.

This ancient fortress, once prosperous thanks to the flax, hemp and saffron trade, has retained evidence of its rich past. Its charming cobblestoned streets are ideal for long strolls, taking you right back to the Middle Ages and leading you to discover stone structures built in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries.

The village also hosts a renowned lyrical music festival each year at its castles, without a doubt the most anticipated event of the summer. The castles also set the stage for meetings of local artisans, bringing together the village's finest creators.

Not to be missed

  • The Payrol house: the former home of Bruniquel's governors, this home houses painted murals dating back to the 13th century, Renaissance ceilings and a museum showing a collection of objects tied to local history.
  • The Belaygue wooden house: this beautiful former home has been classified as a historical monument since 1952.
  • The two castles of Bruniquel (the old castle from the 13th- 19th centuries and the new castle from the 15th- 17th centuries): a visit here will allow you to admire Queen Brunhilda's tower, the knights' room and the Renaissance-style gallery, which offers lovely views of the Aveyron valley.
  • The castle museum: a permanent exhibit highlights the prehistoric era as well as Robert Enrico's film "Le Vieux Fusil" (The Old Gun), which was partially filmed in the village.
